Description
Goblet (blown in a auxiliary mold) made of colorless glass, the solid round base rises directly into a slightly concave shaft, faceted lengthwise, attached above a ring disc is a tall, conically opening bowl with an heavy bottom. The outer front is decorated with a shield in polychrome enamel painting and gilding. It depicts a lyre with a sword between crossed laurel and oak branches; above it is the dedication “Den Sängern des Vaterlands” below it the year “1814”, the rim is fire finished. Its shape is reminiscent of traditional examples from the Silesian glassworks in Wessola, which, however, usually have a square base and, due to the coal firing introduced there, a bluish-grayish glass mass (not visible here). It is not possible to name a manufacturer without reservation.
Provenance
Formerly Museum Neuruppin, former Zieten Collection (number 604c). During the Second World War, parts of the collection were moved to locations including the Neuruppin District Office and have been considered lost since the end of the war.
