Description
Goblet (blown in a auxiliary mold) made of colorless glass, the solid round base rises steeply and forms the shaft, faceted lengthwise, attached above a ring disc with small, cut olives, a high, cup-shaped widening bowl. The exterior is decorated all around with a wide decorative border in colored enamel painting by hand, which bears the Iron Cross with oak leaves on the front; above it is the dedication "Vivat / mein / König und mein Vaterland / 1814", the rim is fire finished. The manufacturer cannot be named without reservation. While the date of production is clearly established, the origin can only be determined as “German” or “Bohemian,” with the aforementioned quality of workmanship suggesting the latter.
Provenance
Formerly Museum Neuruppin, former Zieten Collection (number 604b). During the Second World War, parts of the collection were moved to locations including the Neuruppin District Office and have been considered lost since the end of the war.
