Description
One of two tall altar vases which are multiply structured: curved cup above a circular, constricted foot; two handles in the shape of forward-bending female torsos, which end in foliage and take the shape of tendril scrolls where they are joined to the rim of the vase neck; low relief ornaments on the foot and cup: intertwined strapwork, leaves and blossoms; signed with "IKB".
Provenance
Transferred from the palace chapel to the museum by order of duke Alfred of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in 1894.
