A ribbon spiral wrapped around the shaft with a calendar of significant battles from the war of 1870: „4. August Weissenburg b. Wörth – 16. August Gravelotte – 30. August Beaumond (Metz) – 1. September Sedan …“. Underneath the base is the manufacturer's mark: “Schaefer & Hauschner, Berlin Friedrichstr. 22.”
Provenance
Formerly the Museum Fürstenwalde (Spree). Towards the end of the war, the museum's collection was located in the town hall, which was damaged during air raids in April 1945. In June of the same year, parts of the collection were relocated to the former Hindenburg School in Fürstenwalde. Individual items from the collection were lost during this period as a result of looting and theft.
