Description

Silhouettes of the Weimar Court Society at the time of Goethe. From the silhouette album of Frau von Willemer. Gold pressed leather case, containing 42 portrait silhouettes, an autograph of Goethe: "Er ist noch weit vom Schluß entfernt, Er hat das Ende nicht gelernt. Goethe, Weimar am 7. Jan. 1814" and a lithograph, green print, with autograph Marianne von Willemers: "19. März 1854 Josephstag".

Attributed to Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn in the catalogue.
