Description
Exact counterpart to the portrait medallion ZV No. 1596: the electress is shown in profile facing left; her hair is styled in wavy curls, interlaced with strings of pearls and topped with a low tiara on the forehead; on her left shoulder she wears a mantle with an embroidered hem that also marks the lower edge of the bust; the artist's signature is found on the lower margin of the medallion: "GRAEFENSTEIN. F. GOTHA"; the frame matches the one of the medallion ZV No. 1596.
Provenance
Acquired on October 20th 1925 at the Edgar Bolz auction at Hugo Helbing, Frankfurt on the Main (auction catalogue no. 20b), together with the preceding medallion, for the sum of 1000 marks.
