From the estate of the late Alexander Gerling, Frankfurt, to whom Thoma had given the painting. Acquired from Kleemann, antiquarian bookseller, Grünwälderstr.33, Freiburg. Lost in 1945 during the looting of the museum objects evacuated to the relocation site at Waldkirch/Breisgau prison.
