Description
A RARE CASTEL DURANTE LUSTRED PORTRAIT TONDINO, by Maestro Giorgio Andreoli, decorated in the golden sunk centre with a bust portrait of a girl in profile to sinister, her ruby scarf knotted on her bosom and on a white ribbon scroll inscribed " SIL-VAGGIA • DIVA ", the everted rim decorated en grisaille and ruby lustre on a blue ground with a winged human-headed chimera, festoons and a cherub's head supporting a bowl, the underside with ruby scrolls, and on the base the date 1531 and initials Mo. Go., Castel Durante, 1531
Provenance
Munich, loss 1938;
The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
