Description
A VERY RARE AND FINELY PAINTED GUBBIO LUSTRED DlSH ON FOOT, by Maestro Giorgio Andreoli, painted with Hercules and Nessus, in a woodland scene with a tree on which is a label inscribed " DIVO ? ERCULI", in the distance a river and a view of a city, the reverse with ruby lustre scrolls and on the centre of the foot the date 1525 and the initials Mo. Go., 1525
Provenance
Munich, loss 1938;
The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
