Description
A pine forest by a lake can be seen in autumnal colours. It is presumably a depiction of the Grunewald forest.
Provenance

In July 1931, Herbert Ginsberg offered the Nationalgalerie a ‘large Grunewald landscape (in oil)’ on loan for the memorial exhibition on the occasion of Lesser Ury's unexpected death in November 1931. At the time, the painting was hanging in his city flat ‘von der Heydtstr. 5’ and had been acquired many years earlier by his father Isidor Ginsberg directly from the artist's studio and ‘had therefore probably never been seen at an exhibition before’. The painting on offer can be seen on an interior photograph of Herbert Ginsberg's parents' house “am Karlsbad 7”. Unfortunately, the painting was not shown at the exhibition. A loss as a result of Nazi persecution cannot be ruled out.

Knowing which motif it is and that it is an oil painting, the search is limited to two paintings that show the same motif. For possible identification, see the blog entry: external link
