Bernheim Jeune; Hotel des Ventes (Paris); Alfred Lindon collection, acquired from above; looted on 5 Dec, 1940, from Chase Safe Deposit Company, 41, rue Cambon, Paris; transferred on 10 Dec, 1940, to Jeu de Paume; sent by Rochlitz to Goering from Paris to Baden-Baden in June 1944 and from there it was lost. On May 5 , 1941 the art dealer Gustav Rochlitz exchanged three ‘degenerate’ paintings by Matisse and Renoir for a painting of the School of Fontainebleau. The Matisse and one of the Renoirs belonged to Alfred Lindenbaum. There is no record as to whom the other Renoir belonged.
