Description
Signed: "Giovanni Battista Minghi". One of four watercolors by Minghi depicting various theater characters.
Provenance
Originally belonged to claimant's mother, who left all of her property behind at her apartment at Johannesgasse 22 when she fled Vienna in 1938. The painting was confiscated by the Gestapo and subsequently sold at the Dorotheum on January 5, 1942 [Nr. 952/63]. The Vienna book dealer V.A. Heck purchased three of the Minghi watercolors including this one at the sale.
