Description
Soldiers in early 19th-century Prussian uniforms bid farewell to their loved ones. The scene depicts a farewell from their quarters rather than a farewell to war. An illegible signature appears at the bottom left. On the lower right edge of the sheet: "Neu Ruppin zu haben bei Gustav Kühn".
Provenance
Formerly the Museum Fürstenwalde (Spree). Towards the end of the war, the museum's collection was located in the town hall, which was damaged during air raids in April 1945. In June of the same year, parts of the collection were relocated to the former Hindenburg School in Fürstenwalde. Individual items from the collection were lost during this period as a result of looting and theft.
