Provenance
The precious metal objects, which were loaned to the Royal Dresden Museum of Decorative Arts in 1900 by the ‘Church Inspectorate of the Protestant Court Church (Sophienkirche)’, were packed in box E 20 in 1943 and moved to Dippoldiswalde Castle (district court) on 25 January. On 21 May 1945, ‘all boxes were intact’. Box E 20 was not taken on the first return transport on 13 October 1945. When the ‘salvage depot recently released by the commander of the Soviet political administrative police’ was cleared and the crates were transported back to the Museum of Decorative Arts on 26 January 1946, they were described as ‘mostly open’. Significantly more than half of the artefacts listed in box list E 20 were no longer present. Of the ecclesiastical loans, an Augsburg jug and the lids of two baptismal jugs.
