Description
AN URBINO ARMORIAL TONDINO, by Fra. Xanto Avelli, decorated in the centre with the Pucci arms and against an architectural and landscape background with a figure of Bacchus on the right, and the Daughters of Anius, King of Delos on the left being changed into doves by Bacchus when they objected to Agamemnon's request {Ovid. Met. XIII, v. 642-673), the reverse of the plate inscribed in blue " 1532 • Dil Re Anio le figlie i piu Colombe. Nel. XIII L ? d'Ouidio Met: Fra: Xanto A. da Rovigo, I Urbino ", circa 1532

The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
