From the Book of Hours of Duke Johann Albrecht of Mecklenburg: Four of the colourful and remarkably well-preserved miniatures are by the Flemish painter Simon Bening, probably commissioned between 1512 and 1521 for a Nuremberg nobleman. A fifth is by an unknown artist who worked for Bening, and two are by Nikolaus Glockendon the Elder or his workshop. The seven miniatures all come from the “Book of Hours of Duke Johann Albrecht of Mecklenburg”, which contains a total of 43 miniatures and has been in the possession of the State Library since the 17th century. In the 19th century, the curators removed all the pages so that they could be displayed individually.
