Description
Of the 1,165-volume Jakob Krause collection, which is part of the oldest core of the Saxon State Library, 84% was moved due to the war, exactly 985 volumes. The collection is internationally known for the unique bindings of the Dresden bookbinder Jakob Krause, the most important Renaissance bookbinder (d. 1583). As a high-ranking testimony to craftsmanship and artistic achievements of the 16th century in Dresden, this collection can be attributed to the internationally known Dresden art collections. It was constantly shown in the exhibition halls of the Japanese Palace until the 2nd World War.
