Description
Obverse: Staggered bust portraits of Johannes Versmann and Carl Petersen in official robes to the right, legend: To commemorate the unification of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg with the customs territory of the German Empire / in 1888 -/ when Johannes Versmann was Dr. and Carl Petersen was Dr. Mayor; reverse: view of Hamburg harbour with sailing ships over which the sun is rising. At the top left the helmeted coat of arms of Hamburg, held by two lions with shield banners, on it in Fraktur: Zollgebiet - Freihafen. At the bottom edge the signatures S THILEN D. E. WEIGAND SC.
