Description
Mandolin, pear-shaped body with flat top. Body made of individually glued together chipboard parts. A tortoise shell plate next to the sound hole. Wooden fingerboard and head, metal strings.
Provenance
The mandolin probably comes from the property of a workers' mandolin club. Next to the mandolin in the museum hangs a picture of a Uslar mandolin club. The type of clothing (including open shirts with long collars) indicates that the club belonged to the workers' movement in the 1920s.
Furthermore, text panels on an earlier exhibition on the Uslar workers' movement (in the museum's depot) mention that one of the protagonists of the local workers' movement, August Schönitz senior, was in charge of a workers' mandolin club in Uslar in the 1920s.
