The jealous Tyrolean (scene in an pub)
The painting shows several people in an inn. A wall on the left divides the inn into two rooms. A couple in traditional costume is depicted in the foreground. The woman on the left is wearing a blue apron, has her right arm on her hip and is looking down. To her right, the man with a feathered hat stands with his legs apart, his left hand closed into a fist. He is holding the woman's hand in his right. On the right edge of the picture is a table with crockery, below it a dachshund looking up at the couple. In the background, through an arched opening, we can see the parlour with numerous guests, whose gazes are also directed towards the couple.
The work is signed and dated "Defregger 1899" at the bottom left.
The painting is listed and illustrated in the catalogue raisonné of Hans Peter Defregger's works (1983).
