Purchased on ebay, the seller said he had bought it from a flea market dealer.
In 1870, Joel Moses Belf was granted a licence to operate a bookshop in Vienna selling Hebrew books. From 1903 the bookshop was located at Rabensteiggasse No. 3 in Vienna; in 1919 his son Josef Belf received the licence for the bookshop; in 1938 the bookshop was Aryanised and Josef Belf was deported to the Dachau concentration camp. He emigrated to the USA with his wife in 1939 and died there in 1944 as a result of his imprisonment.
The Hebrew bookshop and publishing house Josef Schlesinger was founded in 1858. The business premises were located at Seitenstettengasse 5, in Vienna's 1st district.
