Description
The linen cloth is loose. It is not clear whether it has ever been framed. Pinholes and traces of rust on the upper and lower edge, as well as remnants of glue and adhesive tape, indicate that the painting has already been hung and fixed in landscape format. The signature ‘WWauer’ and the date ‘Juli 44’ scratched directly into the paint layer (probably) with the end of the brush handle on the upper right of the recto.
recto: Constructivist depiction of a façade front with pointed roofs, interspersed laterally with round, geometric elements and wedge-shaped, tapering forms. It is conceivable that this could be an oil study for a stage set.
Verso: Expressionist interior with scratched interventions in bright colours and dark contours. It shows a flower vase containing a red and a yellow flower in front of a closed window with a window sill as a seat.
