After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich in 1938, the dissolution of Burgenland was decided, the southern part was assigned to Styria. In the course of this division, the holdings of the Burgenland State Museum were also divided. Therefore, some of the works of art confiscated from Jewish collections in Güssing were passed on to the Joanneum in Graz, including the painting mentioned above. It is mentioned on a list of confiscated objects from January 1939, on a takeover confirmation from 1940 and on an old index card from 1941. According to the available documents, it cannot be linked to any particular previous owner at present.
