Provenance
On 13 January 1941, Mr Chantelau from Bremen-Farge purchased ‘1 bookcase, 1 desk, 1 armchair’ for RM 825.00 from the Altmöbel-Halle Gerhard Klöfkorn in Bremen, Fedelhören 38. The original invoice has been preserved. It is known that Gerhard Klöfkörn regularly purchased furniture at auctions of removal goods belonging to persecuted Jews in Bremen, which was intended for resale (see entries in the LostLift database). This gave rise to the suspicion that the cabinet could be cultural property confiscated as a result of Nazi persecution. While the cabinet has been preserved, the desk and armchair are no longer available. The cabinet was reported and handed over by the heir during an event on potential Nazi looted property in private ownership.
