Description
Brass candelabrum with engravings of tendril patterns. The candelabra itself has a stepped convex shaft with a horizontal collar. A cylindrical spout sits on the triple-nodded shaft. Signs of age and use, dents, bumps and rubbing in places are complemented by an enormous gash in the foot, which can only have been caused by rough handling. It is interesting to note that this is a so-called bell chandelier, which, based on the assessment of the pattern and the execution, can be assigned to the early Baroque period. Unfortunately, there are no markings or hallmarks that would allow a closer determination. Comparable pieces in terms of design and quality are dated to the early 17th century.
