The miserly old woman (The miser)

The painting was acquired in 1741 from the Wallenstein Collection in Dux for the Saxon Elector Friedrich August II, who was also King August III of Poland. During the Second World War, it was stored in Milkel Castle in the district of Bautzen and, from 13 March 1945, in Schieritz Castle in the district of Meissen. The painting was one of the works missing since 1945 and returned to the Gemäldegalerie in 2005 after it was recovered with the support of the association Freunde der Staatlichen Kunstsammlung Dresden e.V.
