In the summer of 1945, a total of over 11,000 books (library stock) were confiscated from the Sugar Institute by the Soviet Military Administration and taken to the Soviet Union. Discussions between Germany and Ukraine on the return of cultural assets taken during the war have been ongoing since 1993 on the basis of the German-Ukrainian Agreement on Cultural Cooperation. Part of the former Institute for Sugar Industry's collection (713 books) was returned to Germany in June 2013.
