Description
Rectangular target depicting the market square in Guben. Looking from the north, the view extends along the facades of the town hall (left) and the wine shop opposite to the house at Markt 27 in the centre of the picture. Below is the caption: „9tes Gesellschafts-Schiessen, d. 27sten Sept. 1861. Emil Guck“. Guck may have been the homeowner.
Provenance
Formerly the Guben City Museum. Parts of the collection were apparently evacuated to Kossar (today: Kosierz) in 1942/43. The part of the collection that remained in Guben is said to have been looted between 1945 and 1948 and has been considered lost ever since.
