Description
Large mantelpiece mirror with carved gold frame. The narrow space between the outer frame and the decorated moulding on the inside was also mirrored. These (edge) glasses were obviously at a different level or angle to the inner mirror, as can be clearly seen on the right-hand side. Crowning of the mantelpiece: The ornamentation of the elaborate carving can be traced in detail.
Provenance
Created in 1868 for the decoration of the Red Silk Room (Room 492) in the Georgen Building of Dresden Castle; in accordance with the 1924 settlement agreement, they fell to the Free State of Saxony; In 1944, mirrors and mirror parts and wall mirrors were transported from the Dresden Castle to a relocation site (Rammenau or Schleinitz Castle); there is no evidence of a return transfer; Circumstances of loss unknown. A loss in connection with the events of the Second World War is assumed.
