Le Bajazet de Jean Baptiste Racine
From the first episode »Scènes de Tragédie« to the series »Les scènes d'Opera, de Tragédie et de Comédie«. The plot is set in the Ottoman Empire and was related to Sultan Murad (called Amurat by Racin), who had his brothers and potential rivals, Bajazet (Bayezid) and Orcan executed in 1635. Bajazet, who loves Atalide, could save his life if he agreed to marry Roxanne. However, he is not ready for this, so Roxanne has him murdered. The episode of the tapestry shows the two opponents in the royal palace. Atalide holds a letter handed by Roxanne in her hands and falls into the arms of her servant. Roxanne is waiting for a reply to her letter in the middle background. The inscription in the pedestal under the image contains the description of the scene: "LE BAJAZET DE RACINE ACTE IV.SCENE III"
