Description
finely crafted Madonna sculpture. Carries the child on her left arm, her right hand supporting under the armpit. The child rests his right arm on the mother's upper body, who is wearing a high crown with an acanthus leaf pattern

17/20 March 1918 Cassirer/Helbing, Berlin, lot 87 (ill. plate 9); Martin Schwersenz, Berlin; [...]; at least since 1925 until his deportation in 1942, the Madonna sculpture belonged to the Felix Ganz Collection (Mainz) and is mentioned several times in the private correspondence of the Ganz family, where only one photograph was preserved; [...] - the withdrawal due to Nazi persecution is suspected, the exact circumstances of the loss are unclear; whereabouts unknown
