Description
Constantinian period cage cup. Body restored.
Provenance

Found in 1869 in Hohen-Sülzen near Worms in a late-Roman sacrophagus; body broken, parts taken to Bonn to the Verein der Altertumsfreunde Rheinland as well as to the Altertumsmuseum Mainz (today the Landesmuseum Mainz); 1936 Bonn fragments from the Mainz Museum of Antiquities acquired by barter and reconstructed. Now complete, the object has become the most valuable of the Mainz Roman collection.

1939 relocation to Erbach in the Odenwald; 1945 Central Collecting Point Wiesbaden. Saw there in 1945/1946 during a visit by the then director of the Museum; whereabouts unknown since then.
