Banker W. Itzinger, Berlin, since 1890 in the collection of Eduard L. Behrens, then private property in Hamburg; 23 March 1935: George Behrens informs the Kunsthalle Hamburg that he wishes to sell the painting via Uhde-Bernays, Starnberg. Notification from the Reich and Prussian Minister of the Interior to George Behrens, 1 April 1935, that the painting is to be placed on the list of national cultural assets; 10 April 1935: the commissioned art shop Uhde-Bernays, Starnberg, announces that the painting is for sale for an estimated price of 30,000 marks; 5 June 1935: the Ministry of Folklore, Church and Art applies to purchase the painting. Senator Allwörden writes a handwritten note: The state cannot buy from Jews. Sold to Dr P. Schmitz, Düsseldorf, between October 1935 and 1938. Sold to Georg Schäfer, Schweinfurt, by Galerie Weinmüller (from 1978 by the name Galerie Rudolf Neumeister), Munich, in July 1968. Today in the Georg Schäfer Collection, Schweinfurt.
