Provenance
On 14 December 1943, the silver treasure of the Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral Church (Sophienkirche) was moved to the church office building of the Dippoldiswalde superintendency. When the Soviet army invaded, this building was confiscated as the local commandant's office. The Evangelical Lutheran Superintendency of Dippoldiswalde announced on 8 November 1946 that 'das gesamte Archiv mit den oben genannten Gegenständen beim Wegzug der Russen mitgenommmen worden ist...' Städtisches Museum, Zeitz. 1948 Verlust durch die Sowjetische Militäradministration Sachsen-Anhalt.. In 1947, after the return of part of the archive, 4 goblets and 5 paten were found in a cupboard. When they were returned to Dresden, two high baroque altar chandeliers were also found. The fact that the search for lost artefacts should not only lead to the East is shown by the discovery of three Vasa sacra in Dippoldiswalde in 1963, in Zurich in 1966 and in Stetten/South Baden in 1994.
