Provenance
History of loss: According to the file dated 27 December 1949, the painting was handed over as restitution property from the Rummelsburg camp by the Chief Inspector of the Restitution Department, Lieutenant Colonel Grudnitzki and the representative of the Committee for Art Matters at the Council of Ministers of the USSR, Malischenko, to the Head of Department at the People's Ministry in Berlin, Mr Volkmann and Referent Scholz. It is possible that it was transferred to the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum together with other paintings from Darmstadt following the handover. In accordance with an agreement between the governments of the FRG and GDR on the repatriation of works of art relocated as a result of the war, the Darmstadt Palace Museum received 117 paintings back from there in 1988. However, the painting by Biscaino was not among them.
