The Nazi art department of the city of Stuttgart acquired the painting in 1942 from the "Kunsthandlung Stuttgarter Leben" art gallery in Stuttgart. The previous provenance of the painting is unknown. The "art dealership", which was probably only founded in 1941/42, was owned by the publishing house Kern & Co. Stuttgart. The publisher Georg Kern is one of the art dealers implicated in National Socialism.
