Still life with animals
The Städtische Galerie Stuttgart acquired the painting in 1947 from the “art dealer” Hedwig Scholl from Ulm. The provenance is unknown. There is a provenance gap between the period of the painting's creation (2nd half of the 18th century?) and its sale. Hedwig Scholl was a trained private secretary and office clerk, then ran an advertising agency in Stuttgart. In 1934, she was sentenced to prison for joint fraud, which she served in Gotteszell women's prison. From 1939 to 1945, she was a "self-employed art dealer", although it is unclear how long and where she carried out this work. From 1947 to 1955 she was again an ‘art dealer’ in Stuttgart, but is not known in the art trade.
