Description
From 1655 to 1852, the so-called Blockhaus stood at the entrance to Hamburg's inland harbour as a guard and customs building. Its concave roof was crowned by a turret for the locking bell. The masts of the large sailing ships in the Niederhafen harbour can be seen behind the Blockhaus. There the goods were transferred to the smaller barges and then - as can be seen in the picture - brought through the narrow passage into the inland harbour. Back: Frame: bottom centre: 2 MHG stickers with picture data, top left corner sticker with number "994", top centre: White sticker with inscription: "1936, 100 Jahre, Kunst-Säle Bock, Hamburg", easily recognisable next to it: Inv. no. "194[...]/[...]", right next to it: Remains of sticker, on canvas: on the right: "TSa" in white chalk.
