Protective amulet
Protective amulet for the time of childbed.
No marks. On the back, collection no. "M-323" (Society for Jewish Folklore) and a label "F", amulet inscription in the centre: "Shaddai", inner circle: "Adam und Chawa [Eve], ausgenommen Lilith, die erste Chawa", outer circle, beginning above "Shaddai": "Und fallen zu deiner Seite tausend und mehr zu deiner Rechten, dich trifft es nicht". (Psalm 91, verse 7), in the four corners: coded names of protecting angels.
Landscape-format, rectangular paper amulet, laminated on a wooden board with a narrow, moulded frame. Pieces of paper glued on in the centre and in the corners, inscribed in paint. In the centre in the form of three concentric circles lying around each other. The inner circle is separated from the central inscription circle on the outside by a red-coloured line, the outer circle on the inside by a yellow-coloured line. Inscription in the inner circle above an eight-petalled yellow flower. The eight terms in the outer circle are framed in yellow and separated from each other by colour. Written ovals in the four corners with a blue border.
