The Turks before Vienna
n a hilly landscape, against a deep sky, Ottoman and Habsburg soldiers are engaged in heavy horseback combat. In the foreground of the painting, two soldiers with raised swords are chasing two Ottoman warriors armed with sabers, who are turning to face their attackers. Framing the scene is a fallen rider at the lower right corner of the painting, looking concernedly at his horse lying lifeless on the ground at the left edge of the painting. In the background on the left, the battle intensifies all the way to the horizon, while on the right, an estate surrounded by trees is visible on a hill.
