Description
A middle-aged gentleman with center parting, viewed by the observer to half right looking, gaze at the spectator. He wears a dark skirt and a white cravat.
Provenance
1802 creation of the painting "Portrait of a gentleman" by the artist. 1941 auction at Kunsthaus Heinrich Hahn, Frankfurt / Main, under the title "Two counterparts, acquisition by the art dealer Bohler, Munich. 1942 Outsourcing Altaussee. 1945 acquisition in the CCP Munich. 1962 transfer to the departmental assets of the Foreign Office, use for decoration. No evidence of Nazi persecution-induced Wealthy loss. Because of the gaps in the provenance history it can not be completely ruled out.
