Description
in pencil inscribed in lower right: "Meta Cohn-Hendel"; on the back lower right pencil note "No. 2639, Abend in Lüchtringen a. d. Weser, M 35,-"; on the front of the sheet traces of a note erased away in lower right, presumably coded estimate of an art dealer. Under contemporary passepartout typewritten on the left with the work title, on the right with the artist's name.
Provenance
transferred in September 1943 by the OFP Hessen in Darmstadt to the Painting Gallery and the Museum of Antiquities of the City of Mainz, tax office identification number: M. St. 88/851. Probably confiscated by the Mainz tax office in September 1942 after the deportation of the owners. The identity of the owner (presumably a Mainz collector specializing in prints of the Berlin Secession and the 1920s) has not yet been clarified.
