Description
Upholstery damaged.
Legs are bent and grooved, feet taper down and are carved with maple leaf tips. Trapezoidal, slightly oversized seat. In addition to the seat, the arm and backrest are upholstered. The upholstery bears ornamental patterns as well as oval outlines for figurative pictorial motifs (heavily faded; moreover, the upholstery is damaged). Stylistically, the armchair picks up the formal language of the rococo period, but can be dated to the 19th century.
Provenance
probably confiscated in September 1942 by the tax office Mainz-Stadt (identification number of the tax office: M. St. 88/580) Transferred in September 1943 by the OFP Hessen in Darmstadt to the Painting Gallery and the Museum of Antiquities of the City of Mainz (estimated price at transfer: RM 60)
