Inscribed at upper left: "Heinsius.pinxit"; carved frame from the period of origin; finding on the reverse: inscribed on the stretcher (by someone else): "J'ai Donné à Elisa Schindlauer (?) ce portrait de ma Mére / B(on) de Villequier 4. dbre. 1865 / par jouvenu (?) / affectueux" ; inscribed on strut: "No 664"

Madame de Villequier ca. 1800, then her daughter; in 1865 to Elisa Schindlauer (?); 1913 M. N. Collection; 1943 Theo Hermsen, Critique d'Arte, Paris, 1 rue de la Grange-Bateliere; acquired in Paris between 20 April and 5 June 1943 for 8,500 RM from Hildebrand Gurlitt, Dresden; purchased by the latter for 9,350 RM (special permit from municipal funds) from the museum; inventoried on 17 March 1943
